Getting to the Core: 5 Keys to Unlock the Power of Employee Engagement

septembre 11, 2020 |

It’s no secret that employee engagement and motivation is a crucial aspect to a smooth-running work environment. However, knowing and getting there are two very different things. In this article, we will explore the 5 key elements to unlocking the power of employee engagement and creating a more productive workspace.

1. Strong Leadership

Your employees will be hesitant to follow someone who is unsure of themselves. A strong and confident leader will invoke a sense of loyalty and duty to the company. Of course, a good leader also knows when to praise and reward employees.

Think of extra incentives such as more vacation days, cash bonuses, or even stock options that can add a boost of motivation.

Working in a place with a strong leader capable of good management is one of the greatest predictors of the employee turnover rate. The rule of thumb is happy and content workers equal to high employee retention, increasing productivity and profits.

2. Communication

Always encourage communication. An open-door policy makes employees feel heard and valued. Inspire a sense of unity by taking down the office walls literally and figuratively to eliminate barriers. This will give employees a feeling that everyone is equal, which will stimulate the willingness for more communication.

Without clear communication, your staff members may not be clear on what is expected of them, and they may hesitate to ask questions. Clear and open lines of dialogue will incite trust in all parties.

Let departments mingle, encourage group lunches, and don’t keep important information about the company from your employees, especially if it will impact their lives. Knowing that their leader trusts them enough to share sensitive information will further strengthen the trust they possess. 3. Growth and Development

Make sure an office is a place for growth and development. It’s easy for individuals to feel stifled if they feel like they’ve hit the ceiling and cannot move any higher personally or professionally.

Invest in group seminars, conferences, and other activities that will foster growth and improvement. A virtual race with teroGO is guaranteed to challenge your team physically and mentally while working towards a greater cause. Create a race of your own ici!

Trust your team members to handle new tasks and let go of the reigns, so they have room to develop at their own pace. As a leader, your job is to provide opportunities for growth and offer encouragement along the way.

4. Understanding

Understand that every employee is different – different in how they think, learn, execute and communicate. Take the time to get to know each person instead of giving blanket demands to each department.

Once you understand how each person thrives, you will have a better chance at taking advantage of their strong suits. For example, some work well independently while other staff members do excel in groups.

You can assign tasks and projects to the most suitable ones once you take the time to engage with each person and understand them on a fundamental level. This way, staff members won’t ever be faced with responsibilities they cannot handle and suffer from burnout.

Getting to know each individual can be an arduous task in a large company, so opening lines of communication and encouraging growth and development is the best way to help with the understanding of your employees.

5. Shared Values

When hiring, you should make sure your potential employees understand the core value of your company. Do they share your vision and your goals? They are cogs that fit into the large company machine, and they need to understand the role they play and how they fit into the big picture.

It’s important to give workers a greater purpose so they feel like they are a part of something bigger than themselves. This will inspire motivation to contribute to a larger goal.

Think about contributing to the community. You can even reach further than that and participate in a virtual race with teroGO and join in beneficial causes that help those worldwide.

Conclusion

We believe that all of these points are important pillars to unlock the power of employee engagement. Employee engagement begins from the inside out. From the company values to your management style, your goal as a leader is to create a safe space for employees to speak their minds, feel valued, and create opportunities for them to improve.
