Sisley promoted employee engagement and planted over 78,000 trees with teroGO

August 30, 2022 |

Sisley joined forces with teroGO for a team building challenge that supported an environmental cause: the reforestation in Australia.

Sisley Tree Challenge

Sisley is a French, family-owned and innovative company that has developed high-end beauty products for over forty years, based on a unique know-how and expertise: phyto cosmetology. They partnered with teroGO to launch the Sisley Tree Challenge, an employee engagement campaign aimed at bringing their widespread team together to complete fitness activities in order to “unlock” planted trees.

Thanks to the commitment of their employees in more than 30 subsidiaries around the world, Sisley set one goal: to plant 40,000 trees… but they broke records! Their employees got moving and nearly doubled the initial goal, planting 78,278 trees.

We helped Sisley make an impact

The Sisley Tree Challenge supported nonprofit organization One Tree Planted, one of teroGO’s tree planting partners. One Tree Planted is an environmental charity dedicated to making it easier for individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity, and help reforestation efforts around the world.

From March 21 (International Day of Forests) to April 22 (Earth Day) 2022, Sisley’s employees traveled a total of 184,194 kilometers and helped capture 12,000 tons of CO2.

“Commitment, energy, cohesion, and enthusiasm punctuated the Sisley Tree Challenge. Thanks to the participation of all our subsidiaries around the world, 78,278 trees will be replanted in Australia. A very concrete result… and a beautiful symbol: to get there, the teams have traveled together more than four times around the Earth!” Sarah Charieyras, Internal Communication Director within General Management at Sisley.

Why trees?

Sisley wanted to gather their employees from all over the world to support the reforestation in Australia.

During Australia’s “Black Summer” wildfires of 2019 – 2020, more than 19 million hectares of land burned, devastating the biodiversity in the area and destroying countless trees.

Trees are crucial to a healthy environment. In fact, they help purify the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity.

Sisley was determined to help replace some of the trees that were burned as a result of these catastrophic fires.

We helped Sisley engage their employees

On top of the positive impact this challenge had on the environment, it was also a huge success for team building.

Throughout the month-long challenge, Sisley’s employees got to compete in teams to contribute to the goal of the challenge. In order to unlock the trees, employees had the choice to walk, ride a bike, or go for a run. Once they finished one of these activities, they could take a photo documenting the workout and share it with their colleagues through the teroGO app.

Whether it was a sweaty selfie or a photo of the landscape, Sisley’s employees shared thousands of photos with each other!

Team building challenges like the Sisley Tree Challenge do wonders for connecting employees, and it’s clear to see the benefits. In fact, research found teams with connected employees see an overall productivity increase of around 20-25%

Together, Sisley’s employees logged 56,784 activities and shared over 3,464 photos with each other. Of the 4,500 Sisley employees worldwide, 70% participated in the challenge.

The importance of physical activity

As an organization, encouraging your employees to get active is one of the most important things you can do for their health.

Physical activities like running, biking, and walking, have all been proven to deliver immense benefits when practiced regularly. With remote and hybrid work on the rise, it’s becoming more common for employees to stay in the same spot most of the day, not moving much beyond the occasional walk around the house.

Research shows about one in three women and one in four men do not engage in enough physical activity to stay healthy. According to the CDC, being physically active can improve brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve the ability to do everyday activities.

Exercise has also been shown to reduce stress and anxiety and improve the overall well-being of those who partake.

The Sisley Tree Challenge helped unite the team around a meaningful goal, encouraging them to build long-lasting healthy habits and relationships along the way.
