Since March, first responders have navigated through a series of new challenges regarding the pandemic. The Narberth Ambulance planned to raise funds through their physical bike race to replace their old ambulance with a new one to keep their first responders safe and ready to respond to life-saving needs. Due to the pandemic, Narberth Ambulance was forced to cancel their bike race. Therefore, they turned to atlasGO to organize their first virtual race of “The Main Bike Race,” raising more than $65k from 180 participants and corporate partners.
Narberth Ambulance’s community was invited to join the virtual challenge by donating through atlasGO’s customized registration page. Participants geared up with a Main Line Bike shirt or a professional race jersey shirt to get ready for the bike race to start on August 9. We presented three specific challenges to choose from, including “The Walsh & Nicholson Virtual Ride” with 13.2 miles, the “Tour de Main Line Health” with 28.8 miles, and the “Narberth Ambulance Challenge” with 54 miles. Together the goal was to bike 108,000 miles representing the Narberth Ambulance fleet’s annual mileage.
Once a year, “The Main Line Bike Race” brought together riders from all over the region to participate in their criterium circuit. Usually, Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore gets shut down for an exciting bike race around town. The event offered fun for everyone while including 20-minute family rides, displaying vintage cars, or witnessing all of the generous volunteers and avid cyclists racing for a good cause on behalf of Narberth Ambulance.
The virtual bike race allowed the Narberth Ambulance team to unite their supporters and community virtually. Thanks to their abundance of supportive sponsors, they were able to fuel engagement through a variety of attractive prizes. Every participant who registered was entered into a raffle. A Trek road bike, a Wahoo Fitness power trainer, a Garmin varia radar bundle, and a $100 Trek gift card motivated their community to sign up and support the Narberth Ambulance. Together, the Narberth Ambulance community logged 11,979 miles, virtually cycling their criterium circuit in Ardmore. More importantly, the Narberth Ambulance raised enough funds to purchase a brand new ambulance.
Despite the challenging times and the event being virtual, Narberth’s corporate sponsors generously supported “The Main Line Bike Race,” helping them fund their new state-of-the-art vehicle. Sponsors of the day, among others, included Independence Blue Cross and the Main Line Health. Additionally, they celebrated and recognized all their gold-level, silver-level, bronze-level, and supporters virtually. Get your case study .
Albert Davey, who was managing the project, is happy about the results of their first virtual “The Main Line Bike Race.” atlasGO offered him a valuable solution to his fear of not being able to raise funds in 2020. “atlasGO was a ray of light in a dark time for us!” says Albert. The Main Line Bike Race will be back in 2021 and will look to atlasGo for a two-week lead-up virtual race to add to their physical race.
