As COVID-19 affects us globally, many of us are locked down at home and unable to join in physical activities. In light of this, YWCA has moved their 5K run and 1 mile walk online with atlasGO. Over 240 people participated in full steam with sweaty selfies and virtual high fives logging in over 700 miles to bring awareness to their cause.
The effects of COVID-19 were expedited due to global travel and the world faced sudden closures of businesses and organizations that shut down the economy. The YWCA needed a quick solution to remedy the social distancing limitations placed on their annual physical race and atlasGO was able to assist them with the tight turnaround time.
The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) hosts an annual physical race yearly that aims to bring and spread awareness and to fight racism. However, due to the raging pandemic that envelops most countries in the world, the YWCA has opted to move their tradition online.
In partnership with atlasGO, all participants that completed either the 5K run or 1 mile walk were eligible to enter a raffle that awarded a $50 gift card to three restaurants in Charleston.
The race was held on the atlasGO app where they could track and log in their miles. It all began with registration. Participants had the option to choose either race with two weeks to complete a 1 mile walk or 5k run distance. The celebrations at the end of the campaign were held digitally.
The race allowed the YWCA Charleston branch to raise and spread awareness on the issue of racism and helped with community engagement and fundraising. The YWCA was able to build a community of like-minded individuals to partake in sweaty selfies and virtual high-fives as they made their way to the virtual finish line.
As said, since the physical race got canceled in light of COVID-19, the YWCA turned to atlasGO for the technical implementation of this virtual event. Through atlasGO the YWCA managed to reach out to and invite sponsors such as Toyota, and TC Energy Foundation among others to make this possible.
Participants were very impressed with the implementation and delivery of the virtual race. Shannon Lester, the Development & Marketing Director at YWCA Charleston stated:
“atlasGO was great to work with and definitely helped make our event a success. They were extremely responsive to our questions which to us was impressive considering the three hour time difference.”
Other participants have attested that without the atlasGO platform, “there wouldn’t have been as much incentive to participate” in a race that was restricted by social distancing rules.”
Thanks to atlasGO, the YWCA have exceeded their goals of 200 tickets sold by 42 (242 tickets sold in total)! The atlasGO app allowed all the participants to “interact as a community” and encourage each other every step of the way. The sweaty selfies and virtual high fives were a fan favorite and provided great engagement.
“atlasGO is a fun and efficient partner to work with! “
“atlasGO enables businesses and non-profits to raise money while fostering community connection and wellness. “
We here at atlasGO find joy in bringing people together and fostering a sense of community, especially in critical times like these. atlasGO was able to provide successful implementation to replace a physical race with a digital one, and was able to cover important components in a crunched timeline. If you are interested in organizing a digital race to raise funds, spread awareness and engagement for your non-profit organization and community, feel free to reach out to us. We’re always happy to chat.
